Ikeda Family Japanese Garden is a unique modern garden developed from the end of the Meiji period to the beginning of the Taisho period.
The cherry blossom season is from the end of April to the beg. of May. ・It is covered by snow from December to March (varies by years). ・It hosts Iwate Yuki Matsuri (snow festival) from beg. to mid. of February. A privately-run holistic farm of the largest kind in Japan.
One of the Ihatove landscape areas that are the government-designated places of scenic beauty. It is exciting to see dozens of clear streams falling in the basin from a huge rock of 8.5 meters tall and 30 meters wide. The waterfall appears in one of Kenji Miyazawas works called “Daigawa”.
This is the most famous site for cherry blossoms in the prefecture with 1200 Prunus yedoensis trees over 80 years old lining up for app. 8km along Shiroishi

It was a castle where Katakura Kojuro, called the competent counselor of Date Masamune, resided and where Katakura family continued to reside for over 260 years till the Meiji Restoration.
It is a 100m-high white statue of Avalokiteśvara whose official name is Sendai Tendo Byakue Daikannon. This statue is very popular among overseas (especially Asian) visitors.
