It is a 100m-high white statue of Avalokiteśvara whose official name is Sendai Tendo Byakue Daikannon. This statue is very popular among overseas (especially Asian) visitors. It is well worth the visit not only for the spectacular appearance but also for the 60m-high hollow space inside that is divided into 12 floors to house statues of 33 Avalokiteśvara, 12 Heavenly Generals and 108 Buddha. As each of the 12 floors has the observation window, you can enjoy the view of the central Sendai to the Pacific as well as Mt. Izumigatake.
